F. John Rickert
F. John Rickert is the pop culture contributor to Arkansas:Abroad. Born and raised just up the road from Greers Ferry Lake, he attended the University of Central Arkansas where he studied International Relations, Economics, and 20th Century’s obsession with being cool. After that he moved to New York to earn an MA in Media, Culture, and Communication from NYU. The fall of 2011 will be the first autumn that he is not in school, so it is safe to say he is a little confused.
Currently, F. John is still wrapping up his MA thesis on video games as art works while working for Brooklyn College’s Research and Sponsored Programs office. Here he spends his days digitizing records, working to improve their web site, and whatever else needs doing by the lowest-level employee.
While he might have at one time had political aspirations, F. John suddenly realized one day that he would rather talk about Lady Gaga instead of universal health care and fight for the right to party over fighting for democracy. This has lead him to a life of taking Charlie Sheen seriously, constant caffeine consumption, and watching Netflix for sport. It’s a hard life, but someone has to do it. He has contributed to televisionwithoutpity.com and keeps a personal blog at
fjohnricker.blogspot.com (his “real” site is “under construction”).
